The objective of this project is to assess and mitigate the impacts of forest fires on the critically vulnerable Tylototriton himalayanus (Himalayan salamander) and its habitat in Nepal. This will be achieved by integrating scientific research, community engagement, and habitat restoration efforts.

Project will enhance local capacity for forest fire prevention and management through workshops, firefighting training, and the distribution of essential tools to mitigate fire incidents. Rainwater harvesting ponds will also be constructed to serve as emergency water reservoirs, shelters for salamanders, and breeding grounds to support population recovery post-fire.

Project also aims to reduce intentional fires and foster community participation in conservation. Awareness campaigns using educational posters will highlight the importance of salamander conservation, while distributing fodder and grass seedlings will provide sustainable alternatives for forest-dependent communities.

Project is funded by Fonseca Species Conservation Fund (FSCF) established by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and Re:wild
