Cycas pectinata is categorized as vulnerable under the IUCN Red lists category. It is locally called as Thakkal. It is the only species found in Nepal under the genus Cycas, which is distributed with a low population number in the limited landscapes of the Churiya hills of East and Central Nepal. This plant species is facing conservation threats as locals often harvest it for ornamental and food purposes. This project aims to determine the spatial distribution, assess comprehensive threats, and conduct outreach programs in close collaboration with local communities, stakeholders, and local government authorities for the long-term conservation of this plant species. The project (43046-1) is funded by The Rufford Foundation and researcher Mr. Basu Dev Poudel will be leading the project.
